Dearborn, Michigan police fatally shot a man Saturday after he allegedly started a fire at a mosque and shot at law enforcement officers.
The incident stemmed from a shooting in Detroit, the police chief told The Detroit News.
At 1:18 a.m., Dearborn officers on patrol observed a fire at the Al-Huda Islamic Association on the city’s northeast side.
There they encountered an armed man who appeared to have shot at the officers, the department said.
They chased the armed suspect and exchanged fire, fatally striking him, police said.
No officers were injured.
Dearborn Chief of Police Issa Shahin said the fire was not caused by a firebomb, but was started from inside the mosque.
