Sanaa exhibition highlights Yemen’s threatened cultural heritage
International Museum Day event draws attention to damage facing Yemen’s museums and historical artifacts during years of conflict
SANAA, Yemen (MNTV) — Yemeni authorities organized a special exhibition at the National Museum in Sanaa to mark International Museum Day, drawing attention to the country’s endangered cultural heritage and the need to preserve historical artifacts damaged by years of conflict.
The exhibition featured displays highlighting Yemen’s rich historical legacy as well as the destruction and deterioration affecting museums, monuments and cultural sites across the country.
Visitors, including children and families, toured the exhibition halls where museum staff and cultural officials explained the historical significance of various artifacts and the challenges facing preservation efforts.
Organizers said the event aimed to raise public awareness about the importance of protecting Yemen’s cultural identity amid ongoing instability and war-related damage.
Yemen, home to some of the Arabian Peninsula’s oldest civilizations, has seen numerous historical sites, museums and heritage landmarks affected by conflict over the past decade.
Cultural experts have repeatedly warned that continued fighting, neglect and smuggling threaten irreplaceable artifacts and archaeological treasures across the country.
International Museum Day is observed annually around the world to promote the role of museums in preserving history, education and cultural heritage.
