Pakistani rescues two Indians from floodwaters in Oman

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan (MNTV) — A Pakistani expatriate in Oman rescued two Indian nationals from a car trapped in floodwaters, as heavy rains and flash floods killed at least 10 people in the Gulf country, according to media reports.

The incident took place on Sunday near Barka, where a vehicle attempting to cross a flooded wadi was caught in strong currents and became partially submerged. Reports said the car was swept away by the current before getting stuck against a bridge pillar.

The rescuer was identified as 25-year-old Shahzad Khan, a Pakistani worker from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Videos circulating on social media showed him climbing onto the submerged vehicle and attempting to break the window to reach the passengers trapped inside.

After an initial attempt failed, he used stones to break the window and, with the help of people standing above the flooded area, managed to pull both occupants out of the vehicle and move them to safety.

Eyewitnesses said a large number of people were present at the scene, but the strong water current prevented others from approaching the vehicle.

Shahzad Khan later said he did not think about the nationalities of those inside the car and acted immediately to save lives. He said a previous flooding incident in Pakistan’s Swat Valley, where people trapped in rising water lost their lives, influenced his decision to act quickly.

Heavy rains in Oman caused wadis to overflow and floodwaters to enter residential and low-lying areas, prompting rescue operations in multiple regions. Authorities said at least 10 people were killed in rain-related incidents.

A representative of the Pakistan Social Club said the incident gained widespread attention after videos went viral on social media, adding that efforts were underway to formally recognize the Pakistani expatriate for his act of bravery.
