Palestinian wounded during Israeli settler march in West Bank
Israeli settler procession through Palestinian communities triggered clashes as tensions escalated following deadly violence near Nablus last week
NABLUS, Palestine (MNTV) — A Palestinian man was shot and wounded on Friday after clashes erupted during an Israeli settler march through several Palestinian communities in the occupied West Bank.
According to AFP, the march was organized by Israeli settlers to commemorate two Israelis killed near the Palestinian town of Tell last week.
The Palestinian Red Crescent said its medical teams treated a young man who suffered a gunshot wound to the abdomen.
The organization said the shooting occurred during what it described as an Israeli army and settler raid in Nablus’ Al-Junaid area.
AFP reported that between 100 and 150 Israeli settlers, including women and children, joined the march. The report said around ten participants were carrying firearms as the procession moved through fields and nearby Palestinian communities.
The march passed through Tell, Sarra and the Al-Junaid neighborhood, where confrontations periodically erupted between settlers and Palestinian residents.
AFP reported that some settlers entered several buildings in Tell and Al-Junaid before Israeli forces dispersed the Palestinians with tear gas.
The Israeli military said Palestinians threw stones at Israeli civilians during the confrontation in Al-Junaid.
The army said an Israeli civilian fired shots before soldiers intervened to disperse the locals.
Israeli forces later said another confrontation developed after Palestinians allegedly threw stones at soldiers in the same area.
The military said troops fired at what it described as the primary instigator during efforts to arrest suspects.
Violence in the occupied West Bank has intensified following last week’s deadly confrontation in Tell, where two Israelis and four Palestinians were killed.
Israel has occupied the West Bank since 1967, while Israeli settlements there are considered illegal under international law.
More than 500,000 Israeli settlers live across the occupied West Bank, excluding East Jerusalem.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently announced plans to authorize additional settlements, illegal under international law, following the deaths of the two Israelis.
