Araghchi calls Egypt a friend, warns against false flags in region

TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said Egypt is an important friend and regional partner whose security is of “utmost importance” to the Islamic Republic, while warning against what he described as Israeli plots and false-flag operations aimed at undermining regional peace.

In a message posted on X on Thursday, Araghchi responded to Western media reports linking an unclaimed drone attack on Egypt’s Damietta Port to Iran, IRNA reported.

“Egypt is an important friend and partner in the region, and its security is of utmost importance to us,” he said. “We must all be vigilant against Israeli plots and false-flag operations designed to undermine regional peace. The threat is clear, mutual, and fearful of Muslim solidarity.”

Araghchi’s comments came after Egyptian authorities reported a drone strike Wednesday that caused an explosion and fire involving two ships at Damietta Port on the Mediterranean coast, including a U.S.-linked gas-storage tanker.

No group has claimed responsibility, and no casualties were reported. The fire was quickly brought under control.

The remarks followed media reports, including in The Wall Street Journal, that sought to frame the attack as part of a so-called “Iran war,” a characterization Tehran rejected as an attempt to sow discord among regional states.

Iran has repeatedly denied involvement in attacks on friendly countries and has accused Israel of carrying out false-flag operations aimed at fracturing Muslim unity and advancing its agenda.

Araghchi’s statement underscored Tehran’s position that it seeks regional stability based on mutual respect and cooperation, while rejecting efforts to draw third parties into what it calls wars of aggression.
