Oman’s OQ partners with global giants to decarbonize polymer logistics
Energy firm teams up with Maersk and CMA CGM to cut emissions, enhance efficiency, and meet EU sustainability standards
MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) — Oman’s integrated energy group OQ has announced a strategic collaboration with international shipping leaders Maersk and CMA CGM to decarbonize its global polymer logistics network, marking a major step in the company’s long-term sustainability agenda.
Zawya News reported, the partnership aims to integrate low-emission fuels and faster delivery models into OQ’s supply chain, supporting the firm’s broader decarbonization goals and helping customers comply with tightening European Union climate regulations.
“This partnership reflects our belief that sustainability must extend beyond production,” said Dawood Al Rahbi, OQ’s Vice President for Global Supply Chain. “By embedding low-carbon shipping solutions into our operations, we’re helping clients meet ESG standards while cutting logistics-related emissions.”
Under the initiative, OQ’s polymer shipments are transported through Maersk’s ECO Delivery and CMA CGM’s ACT+ programs, which utilize second-generation biofuels derived from waste oils certified under the ISCC EU system.
Between mid-2024 and early 2025, these measures helped OQ cut or avoid more than 270 tonnes of CO₂e emissions, independently verified under ISAE 3000 and 3410 standards.
The collaboration has also improved delivery times, with OQ’s introduction of floating warehouse and hub operations reducing transit to Europe and Türkiye from 40 days to as few as 2–11 days.
“Efficiency and sustainability are now aligned goals,” Al Rahbi said, highlighting the dual benefits of speed and carbon reduction.
OQ plans to secure internationally recognized sustainability certifications by the end of 2025, aligning with the EU Emissions Trading System to ensure full traceability and transparency in its supply chain.
This effort forms part of OQ’s four-pillar decarbonization strategy — focused on energy efficiency, renewable integration, process optimization, and flaring reduction — extending environmental stewardship to all stages of the value chain.
“As industries move toward net zero, collaboration is key,” Al Rahbi added. “Through partnerships like this, OQ is building resilient, low-carbon supply chains that define the future of sustainable industry.”
