Oman launches digital platform for energy supply chains
New initiative aims to improve procurement, transparency and efficiency across a sector managing more than $10.4 billion in annual supply contracts
MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) – Oman has unveiled a new digital supply chain program for its energy sector, seeking to modernize procurement, strengthen governance and improve operational efficiency across one of the country’s largest industries.
The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals during its inaugural meeting chaired by Undersecretary Mohsen Hamad Al Hadrami, will initially be led by Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) before being expanded to other energy companies and government institutions.
The ministry said the digital platform will streamline procurement processes, contract management and expenditure oversight in a sector that handles annual supply contracts worth more than $10.4 billion.
Oman’s energy industry currently works with over 6,000 suppliers and contractors while issuing more than 600 tenders each year, making digital integration a key priority to improve transparency, accountability and operational performance.
The new system will incorporate artificial intelligence to deliver data-driven insights, strengthen risk management and support faster, more informed decision-making.
Authorities also plan to use the platform to monitor local content requirements, expand opportunities for Omani businesses and establish the foundation for a digital marketplace serving suppliers across the energy sector.
Officials said the program supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040 by accelerating digital transformation, boosting competitiveness and contributing to the country’s long-term economic development strategy.
