Kazakh soprano Aigerim Altynbek wins top prize at prestigious Italian opera contest
Aigerim Altynbek triumphed over finalists from more than 50 countries to win the top prize at CLIP 2025 in Portofino, Italy
ASTANA, Kazakhstan (MNTV) — Rising opera star Aigerim Altynbek of Kazakhstan has clinched first place at the Concorso Lirico Internazionale di Portofino (CLIP), one of the most prestigious international opera competitions held annually in Italy.
According to Kazinform news agency, the 2025 edition of the CLIP contest drew more than 200 applicants from over 50 countries. After a rigorous selection process, 92 vocalists were invited for live auditions, 22 reached the semi-finals, and just 10 advanced to the final round — where Altynbek emerged as the jury’s top choice.
“For me, this was a truly special experience, and I believe even greater achievements lie ahead,” Altynbek shared in a social media post, thanking supporters who accompanied her journey.
Dominique Meyer, President of the Jury and Executive Director of the Orchestre de Chambre de Lausanne, praised her artistry, “The winner received the highest number of votes from the jury in every round. She gave an exceptional performance.”
Altynbek is no stranger to the international opera stage. She has previously won an opera competition in Italy, secured third place at the Nikolay Gyaurov Competition in Modena, and earned the special Mirella Freni prize.
The Kazakh soprano is also set to join the prestigious youth program at Milan’s renowned La Scala opera house for a two-year training period. Just last month, she performed alongside legendary tenor José Carreras during his farewell world tour concert in Astana.
