Kansas man convicted of threatening to kill Rep. Ilhan Omar

WICHITA, United States (MNTV) — A Kansas man has been convicted of threatening to kill Representative Ilhan Omar, a case that illustrates the violence trailing a Muslim woman in Congress who has spent years as a target of political incitement.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Kansas said Adam Osborn of Wichita pleaded guilty to one count of transmitting a threat to injure another person across state lines.

In January, prosecutors said, Osborn posted “I’m going to kill Ilhan Omar” alongside a photograph of himself holding an AR-15-style rifle and a magazine of live ammunition.

Osborn admitted creating the posts.

He told investigators he did not intend to carry out the attack himself but wanted the message to push someone else into violence — an admission that describes incitement rather than mitigating it.

U.S. Attorney Ryan A. Kriegshauser said Americans may express political opinions freely but that threats of violence fall outside constitutional protection and carry consequences.

The Wichita Police Department and the FBI investigated.

Omar, one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress, has drawn sustained hostility built on her faith, her race, and her origins as a refugee — hostility amplified for years by elected officials and national media.

The threat against her did not emerge from nowhere. It is what that rhetoric produces when it reaches a man with a rifle and a phone.
