Iran says US strike hit civilian port tower in Chabahar
Provincial ports authority reports damage to a maritime traffic control center used for fishermen's rescues, as Trump threatens to widen strikes to power plants and bridges
TEHRAN (MNTV) — A US strike damaged the maritime traffic control center at Chabahar Port in southeastern Iran during overnight attacks, the Ports and Maritime Affairs authority in Sistan and Baluchestan province said on Wednesday.
The authority’s public relations department said the control center was struck in the course of US attacks on the port. It described the watchtower as a civilian facility used chiefly for search and rescue operations for fishermen at sea and for securing maritime trade. The statement reported no casualties.
Fars News Agency had reported earlier, citing a provincial official, that US projectiles overnight also hit a wheat storage silo and another site in Khuzestan province, in Iran’s southwest.
Trump said on Tuesday that the strikes would continue and intensify, warning that the United States would start hitting Iranian power plants and bridges next week unless Tehran returned to negotiations.
The exchanges have escalated in recent days around the Strait of Hormuz. Tehran has written to the United Nations accusing Washington of violating the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, the Pakistan-mediated agreement that was meant to halt the conflict and open the way to a lasting peace deal.
