Germany urges Israel to allow humanitarian aid, reconstruction supplies into Gaza
Berlin says facilitating humanitarian deliveries is Israel’s obligation as an occupying power
BERLIN (MNTV) — Germany on Monday urged Israel to ensure humanitarian aid reaches Gaza and called for greater access to materials needed to rebuild the devastated Palestinian enclave.
“Our call and our appeal is to ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid, which, incidentally, is an obligation of an occupying power,” Foreign Ministry spokesman Josef Hinterseher told reporters in Berlin.
Hinterseher said Gaza’s humanitarian situation had improved slightly but warned that major issues, including reconstruction, had yet to be adequately addressed.
He also called on Israel to use German military cargo scanners at the Erez crossing to facilitate the entry of dual-use goods — materials that can have both civilian and military applications — needed to rebuild homes ahead of winter.
“We expect these scanners to be used so that dual-use goods can be utilized for reconstruction and humanitarian aid,” he said.
The scale of destruction in Gaza remains extensive.
A UN Satellite Centre assessment found that more than 201,000 buildings, representing 82% of all structures in Gaza, had been damaged as of June 16, 2026.
Since October 2023, Israel’s war on Gaza has killed more than 74,000 Palestinians and wounded over 175,000 others, according to Gaza health authorities.
Around 90% of the enclave’s infrastructure has been destroyed or damaged.
