Egypt targets $77.5B investment through new economic zones
Seven investment zones under development expected to host 214 projects and generate around 1.2 million jobs nationwide
CAIRO, Egypt (MNTV) — Egypt plans to attract up to $77.5 billion in investments through seven investment zones currently under construction across three governorates, as the country seeks to expand private sector activity and create large-scale employment opportunities, reports Arab News.
The planned zones are expected to accommodate 214 projects and generate nearly 1.2 million jobs over the next two decades, according to a Cabinet statement issued following a meeting between Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly and Investment Minister Mohamed Farid.
The initiative forms part of Egypt’s broader strategy to stimulate economic growth by increasing domestic and foreign investment while strengthening industrial and export capacity.
Officials said the government continues to promote its “Golden License” program, which allows strategic projects to obtain land allocations, construction approvals and operating permits through a single streamlined process designed to reduce bureaucracy and speed up implementation.
Egypt’s long-term economic development strategy aims to achieve 7.5 percent growth by 2030 through higher private investment, expanded exports and increased job creation.
During the meeting, Farid said the ministry had launched a promotional campaign to raise awareness about the investment zones and attract both local and international investors.
The campaign also highlights successful industrial zones such as Mit Ghamr and Banha, where factories operating across multiple sectors are expanding production and increasing exports.
Farid noted that 12 existing investment zones across six governorates currently host 1,277 projects with total investments estimated at 66.3 billion Egyptian pounds, while providing around 77,500 jobs.
He also reviewed performance indicators for the investment zones between 2023 and 2025, saying the figures reflected a significant rise in project capital and average investment size.
According to the investment minister, the zones offer several competitive advantages, including dedicated executive offices under the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones to issue licenses and approvals more efficiently.
Officials added that the investment zone framework is also intended to strengthen partnerships with the private sector in development, management and operations.
