Egypt launches cotton initiative to support small textile businesses
New program aims to strengthen textile clusters, expand exports and revive global standing of Egyptian cotton products
CAIRO, Egypt (MNTV) — Egypt has launched a nationwide initiative to strengthen its cotton and textile sector by supporting small and medium-sized businesses involved in textile manufacturing, spinning, weaving and related industries, as the country seeks to boost exports and revive the global reputation of Egyptian cotton.
The new program, called the “Egyptian Cotton Festival,” was launched by the Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise Development Agency (MSMEDA) in partnership with Cairo Governorate and the Egyptian Marketing Studies Foundation.
Officials said the initiative is designed to improve production capabilities, expand market access and enhance the competitiveness of businesses operating across Egypt’s cotton supply chain.
The program will support enterprises involved in spinning and weaving, textile production, cotton furnishings, dyeing, machinery manufacturing and raw material supply.
Participating businesses will also receive access to financial assistance, technical support and modernization programs aimed at improving operational efficiency and strengthening export potential.
Authorities said the initiative seeks to create stronger cooperation between large manufacturers and smaller enterprises in order to build more integrated production networks and industrial clusters across the textile sector.
Officials added that Cairo Governorate’s involvement reflects broader state efforts to increase the role of small businesses in Egypt’s economy by encouraging production growth, direct sales opportunities and export expansion.
The initiative comes as Egypt intensifies efforts to modernize its textile industry and position itself as a regional hub for manufacturing and textile exports.
Analysts say the program could help diversify exports, stimulate industrial innovation and integrate smaller Egyptian businesses more deeply into global textile supply chains.
Egyptian cotton has historically been regarded among the world’s highest-quality cotton products, though the sector has faced years of challenges linked to declining production, competition and industrial restructuring.
Authorities hope the latest initiative will help restore the international standing of Egyptian cotton while generating new opportunities for local manufacturers and entrepreneurs.
