Uzbekistan launches digital tech and cryptology schools to bolster cybersecurity
Tashkent opens two institutions focused on AI, cloud computing, and cryptology as part of broader push under Digital Uzbekistan 2030 strategy.
TASHKENT, Uzbekistan (MNTV) — In a move to accelerate its digital transformation and strengthen national cybersecurity capacity, Uzbekistan has launched two new educational institutions focused on advanced digital technologies and cryptology.
The Center for Training in New Digital Technologies and the School of Cryptology were inaugurated under the state-run research body UNICON.UZ, with Minister of Digital Technologies Sherzod Shermatov attending the launch event.
These initiatives are part of Uzbekistan’s long-term “Digital Uzbekistan – 2030” strategy, approved by presidential decree in October 2020.
The plan aims to position the country as a regional hub for digital innovation while developing a skilled workforce in critical sectors like artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and information security.
The digital training center will offer instruction in emerging fields such as AI, DevOps, Internet of Things (IoT), big data, data science, e-commerce, and digital marketing.
The curriculum is expected to follow international standards and focus on practical, hands-on learning, targeting students, IT professionals, and aspiring developers.
Meanwhile, the School of Cryptology will focus on specialized areas including cryptography, cryptanalysis, and cybersecurity. In addition to academic training, the school will emphasize research and public awareness, aiming to boost domestic expertise in digital security amid rising global threats.
UNICON.UZ, established in 1992, operates under the Ministry of Digital Technologies and plays a central role in Uzbekistan’s tech ecosystem. The center supports national initiatives in data services, cryptographic systems, electronic signatures, and IT infrastructure.
The government hopes these institutions will not only build local capacity but also inspire youth to pursue careers in IT and cybersecurity, aligning with its broader digital and economic reform agenda.
