Mamdani enjoys unwavering support among NYC voters despite campaign of attacks
Democratic nominee for the New York City mayoral race, Zohran Mamdani is leading the other contenders by a significant margin
NEW YORK, United States (MNTV) – Progressive Democrat Zohran Mamdani, the party’s nominee for the New York City mayoral race, is holding a commanding lead over his rivals, according to a new Siena College poll.
The survey places Mamdani 19 points ahead of former governor Andrew Cuomo and a striking 37 points ahead of incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who has fallen to fourth place behind Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa.
Mamdani, a state assemblyman representing Queens and known for his advocacy on housing justice and immigrant rights, secured 44% of voter support in the poll. Cuomo followed with 25%, Sliwa with 12%, and Adams with just 7%.
While Adams dismissed the results as he has with earlier polls, the figures underscore Mamdani’s strong grassroots base and his ability to connect with voters on core city issues. Experts note the poll’s limitations — it surveyed only 317 registered voters, with a margin of error of nearly 7% — yet the overall trend suggests Mamdani’s progressive platform continues to resonate.
Political consultant Hank Sheinkopf acknowledged the uphill battle for Mamdani’s challengers. “This is not a good day for Adams, and it’s certainly not good for Curtis Sliwa,” he said, adding that Cuomo’s numbers may offer him some hope but still leave him trailing significantly.
With the race intensifying, rivals have escalated personal attacks. Cuomo has repeatedly targeted Mamdani over his rent-stabilized apartment in Astoria — branding it “Rentgate” — a line of criticism Mamdani has dismissed as a distraction from urgent issues.
“Andrew Cuomo has spent more time talking about my apartment than asking why so many New Yorkers are being forced out,” Mamdani said. “He’s put more energy into attacking me than into challenging harmful legislation passed under Donald Trump. That tells you where his priorities lie.”
Mamdani has responded with his own campaign video aimed at Cuomo’s record, while also challenging him to release his private consulting client list. Cuomo, in turn, has demanded Mamdani release his apartment lease.
As the candidates trade barbs both on the ground and across social media, Mamdani’s camp appears focused on sustaining momentum by keeping the conversation centered on housing affordability, economic justice, and the future direction of the city.
