Israeli strikes kill Palestinians despite Gaza ceasefire
Israeli attacks killed two women and wounded others, underscoring the continued civilian toll despite a US-brokered truce
GAZA STRIP, Palestine (MNTV) — Israeli airstrikes killed at least two Palestinian women and wounded several other people in separate attacks across the Gaza Strip on Monday, highlighting the continued violence facing Palestinians despite a U.S.-brokered ceasefire.
Arab News reported that a woman was killed when an Israeli strike hit the rooftop of her building in Gaza City, while her husband and others were wounded.
A separate strike killed another woman and injured several people in the Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
The Israeli military said it had targeted a militant in Nuseirat but provided no further details. It did not immediately comment on the reported attack in Gaza City.
The latest deaths add to the continuing Palestinian casualties reported since the ceasefire took effect.
Gaza health officials say at least 1,400 Palestinians, most of them civilians, have been killed since the truce began, while Israel has reported the deaths of four of its soldiers during the same period.
Palestinian authorities say more than 74,000 people have been killed in Israel’s military assault on Gaza since October 2023.
The continued Israeli strikes have exposed the fragility of the ceasefire, which was intended to halt major hostilities and create conditions for Gaza’s eventual reconstruction. Instead, Palestinian health authorities continue to report deaths and injuries from Israeli attacks.
Negotiations aimed at implementing the broader ceasefire arrangements have also made limited progress.
Key disagreements remain over Hamas’ disarmament and the withdrawal of Israeli troops from Gaza, while Israel and Hamas continue to accuse each other of violating the agreement.
For Palestinians living under the truce, the persistence of Israeli bombardment has meant that the formal ceasefire has not brought an end to the threat of death and injury.
The latest attacks again demonstrate the gap between the announced cessation of hostilities and conditions on the ground.
The attacks also come as Gaza faces the enormous consequences of the wider war, with extensive destruction and reconstruction needs across the territory.
Efforts to establish a durable political and security arrangement remain dependent on resolving the disputes surrounding the ceasefire’s implementation.
