Yemeni delegation explores Ethiopia’s coffee cultivation expertise
Field mission focus on modern farming techniques, crop quality and climate-resilient coffee production methods
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (MNTV) — A Yemeni delegation focused on coffee sector development has conducted a field visit to Ethiopia to examine the country’s expertise in cultivation, processing, and export preparation, as part of efforts to strengthen Yemen’s coffee industry.
The mission, held from April 15 to 29 and supported by the Dorcas, aimed to enhance the technical capacity of Yemeni institutions involved in coffee production and introduce climate-smart agricultural practices.
During the visit, delegates reviewed key stages of Ethiopia’s coffee value chain, including quality control systems, grading standards, and cupping processes used to assess flavor and quality.
They also explored the role of nurseries and specialized laboratories in improving crop consistency and output.
The delegation studied advanced agricultural techniques such as tissue culture propagation and selective breeding, which are used to develop higher-yielding and climate-resilient Arabica coffee varieties.
As part of the program, the team met with Yemen’s Chargé d’Affaires in Addis Ababa, Abdulqader Mohammed, to evaluate the outcomes of the visit and discuss ongoing research efforts.
These include initiatives to hybridize Arabica coffee and explore the development of varieties suited to lower-altitude environments.
Officials say the collaboration reflects broader efforts to modernize Yemen’s coffee sector, improve productivity, and strengthen its position in global markets.
