Venezuelan president confirms conversation with US president, calls it respectful
President Nicolás Maduro confirmed that he held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on November 21
CARACAS, Venezuela (MNTV) – Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro confirmed that he held a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump on November 21, describing the call as respectful and suggesting it could open the door to renewed dialogue between Caracas and Washington.
“About ten days ago the White House called the Miraflores Palace and I had a conversation with President Donald Trump,” Maduro said during a televised address. “It was in a tone of respect, even cordial.”
He said he initially chose not to comment “out of prudence,” adding that important matters require silence “until they come to pass.”
Trump confirmed the call earlier this week aboard Air Force One, saying, “I spoke briefly with him about a couple of issues. We’ll see what happens.”
The conversation occurred during a period of heightened U.S. military action around Venezuela, with more than 20 strikes on vessels Washington accuses of drug trafficking — operations that have killed more than 80 people. Trump has suggested these strikes are “much more” than pressure tactics.
Maduro did not address Trump’s threats to expand operations targeting alleged Venezuelan drug networks on land. Instead, he emphasized negotiation, saying he trusts that “everything will turn out well for the peace, independence, dignity and future of Venezuela.”
