Trump says Iran is seeking swift deal with US
US president says Washington remains open to talks with Tehran but that he will decide whether negotiations move forward
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — US President Donald Trump said Monday that Iran is seeking an agreement with Washington “quickly and badly,” while stressing that any decision to engage with Tehran would ultimately rest with him.
“The failing Nation of Iran wants to make a deal, quickly and badly,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.
Trump said the US remained open to engagement but added that he would determine whether Washington enters talks with Tehran.
“I will determine whether or not the U.S.A. will choose to engage,” he wrote.
His comments come amid months of military confrontation between the two countries.
The US and Israel launched attacks on Iran in February, prompting Tehran to retaliate against Israel and US military targets across the region.
Washington and Tehran later reached an understanding in Islamabad in June through mediation by Pakistan and Qatar. Implementation of the agreement subsequently stalled amid disagreements over the Strait of Hormuz.
The US resumed military strikes on Iran in August. Tehran responded by targeting US military assets in several Arab countries allied with Washington.
