Syria reopens Deir ez-Zor airport after 14 years
Domestic and international flights resume as restored airport strengthens Syria's aviation network and regional connectivity
DEIR EZ-ZOR, Syria (MNTV) — Syria has reopened Deir ez-Zor International Airport after nearly 14 years of closure, restoring both domestic and international air services following the completion of extensive rehabilitation and maintenance work.
The airport officially resumed operations with the arrival of its first domestic flight operated by Syrian Air from Damascus, re-establishing regular air links between the capital and the eastern province.
Deir ez-Zor International Airport also received its first international flight from Kuwait, operated by Syrian Air, marking the return of overseas passenger services and reconnecting the city with regional destinations.
Syria’s General Authority of Civil Aviation and Air Transport said the reopening forms part of broader efforts to expand the country’s aviation network and improve transportation links after years of disruption.
The restoration of the airport is expected to facilitate passenger travel, support commercial activity and improve access to eastern Syria, while contributing to the country’s ongoing infrastructure recovery.
The reopening marks a significant milestone for Deir ez-Zor, whose airport had remained closed for almost 14 years due to the conflict, and reflects continuing efforts to restore key public infrastructure across Syria.
