Student protest movement calls for merit-based voting in Bangladesh
The organization urged citizens to "vote for the most honest and qualified candidate in your constituency"
DHAKA (MNTV) – Inqilab Moncho, the student activist organization that was instrumental in last year’s uprising, has issued a call for voters to make independent choices at the polls.
In a statement shared across multiple Facebook posts, the group—also referred to as Platform for Revolution—emphasized its political neutrality, declaring it “does not support any party or brand.”
The organization urged citizens to “vote for the most honest and qualified candidate in your constituency.”
The movement’s spokesman, Sharif Osman Hadi, had intended to contest the Dhaka-8 seat before his death by gunfire in December, an incident that sparked widespread protests and national grief throughout Bangladesh.
Inqilab Moncho commemorated Hadi through several social media posts featuring images and video footage, using the hashtag #JusticeForHadi alongside a message to “remember the lost.”
Since the Bangladesh Election Commission unveiled the election timeline on December 11, at least 16 political figures have lost their lives to violence.
