COTABATO CITY, Philippines (MNTV) – Members of the Philippines’ Bangsamoro Transition Authority have begun planning security measures to ensure the first-ever regional parliamentary elections in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao proceed peacefully and credibly on September 14.
BTA Committee on Public Order and Safety chairperson MP Butch Malang said he has scheduled joint meetings with the BTA Committee on Local Government to align security preparations.
Planned engagements include meetings with the Police Regional Office-Bangsamoro Autonomous Region, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division under Major General Vladimir Cagara and the Western Mindanao Command under Lieutenant General Donald Gumiran.
The committee is also considering the deployment of additional police in areas with a history of election-related incidents.
Malang’s committee is additionally scheduled to meet with Commission on Elections Chairman George Garcia to map out plans for securing the balloting and preserving the integrity of the Bangsamoro vote.
Bangsamoro Interim Chief Minister Abdulraof Macacua said the regional government is determined to ensure the election is “peaceful, orderly and credible because the world is watching.”
