Pakistan shuts down major airports amid heightened military alert
Closure of Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad airports follows downing of Indian drones as cross-border tensions escalate
ISLAMABAD (MNTV) – Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority on Thursday announced the temporary closure of three major airports — Karachi, Lahore, and Islamabad — citing “operational reasons,” following a significant military escalation involving Indian drone incursions.
The closures will remain in effect until 6 PM local time (1300 GMT), according to an official statement, and come hours after the Pakistani military reported shooting down 12 Indian IAI Harop drones launched across multiple locations, including Lahore, Rawalpindi, and areas near Karachi.
Lt. Gen. Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (DG ISPR), called the drone attacks “a serious provocation” and described them as “yet another blatant military act of aggression against Pakistan.”
At least one drone partially struck a military installation near Lahore, injuring four army personnel, while another attack in Sindh killed one civilian and injured another.
The Pakistani military remains on high alert as observers warn of the growing risk of a broader regional conflict.
