Morocco emerges as Africa’s fashion hub through Audace initiative
Creative platform connects Moroccan designers with global buyers, strengthening the country's ambitions to become Africa's leading fashion destination
MARRAKECH, Morocco (MNTV) — Morocco is strengthening its position as a regional center for fashion and creative industries through the Audace initiative, a platform designed to help local designers expand into international markets while showcasing the country’s rich craftsmanship.
The second edition of Destination Créative Marrakech, held in mid-June, brought together around 15 brands and designers working across fashion, accessories, beauty, design and home décor.
The event connected participants with buyers, retailers, trade show organisers and international media representatives.
One of the success stories highlighted at the event was Moroccan designer Sarah Maj, founder of her eponymous ready-to-wear label, reported Fasion Network.
After joining the initiative, she expanded her international presence through trade fairs in Paris and Tokyo, secured retail partnerships in Japan and entered the Saudi market through pop-up stores.
The growing demand has prompted her to increase production and develop designs tailored to Middle Eastern customers.
Audace was established to help Moroccan creative businesses gain exposure to global markets while preparing them to meet international industry standards.
Organizers said the program receives around 100 applications for each edition before selecting approximately 15 projects with strong export potential.
The initiative also serves as a networking platform, allowing designers to engage directly with department stores, concept stores, trade show organizers, and fashion experts through formal presentations and informal exchanges.
Beyond commercial opportunities, organizers say the program aims to showcase Morocco’s cultural heritage and growing creative ecosystem.
Participants included established craft brands, jewelry makers, wellness companies and emerging designers whose work blends traditional Moroccan techniques with contemporary styles.
Industry leaders say Morocco is increasingly positioning itself as a gateway connecting African, Arab and European creative industries.
They point to the country’s expanding tourism sector, infrastructure investments and international profile as key factors supporting the growth of fashion, design and cultural businesses.
Creative industry advocates estimate the sector contributes around 2.7% of Morocco’s gross domestic product and believe it has the potential to double its economic share within five years.
They argue that greater investment, improved access to financing and talent development will be essential to sustaining growth and establishing Morocco as a leading creative hub for Africa.
