Mayor Mamdani “Deeply Opposes” the RSS Chief’s Visit to NYC as the ‘Unwelcome’ Guest Heads to Canada Next.
August 25, 2026. NYC, NY. In a press conference yesterday, New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani declared his strong opposition to an upcoming event in the city featuring Mohan Bhagwat, the leader of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The RSS is widely regarded as the ideological parent of India’s ruling party, the BJP.
Mayor Mamdani explained his stance by highlighting the divisive and exclusionary politics associated with both the RSS and the BJP. He emphasized that such ideologies have no place in New York. Addressing concerned citizens who urged him to ban the event, the mayor stated that canceling private events does not fall within his jurisdiction.
What is RSS? The RSS, founded in 1925, is an extreme right-wing Hindu nationalist organization based in Nagpur, India. Historical evidence indicates the RSS’s profound admiration for figures like Mussolini and Hitler, as well as the nationalist programs they promoted. Many political analysts suggest that Adolf Hitler’s vision of ‘Aryan racial superiority‘ serves as a foundation for the RSS’s own ‘Hindu supremacist theory,’ which seeks to create a Muslim- and Christian-free India.
Ironically, the party that was modeled after Nazism and applauded the Nazi atrocities against Jews now aligns itself with Israel, glorifying its actions and enlisting in the IOF to support the Zionist cause. India, driven by RSS’s ideology, has even supplied weapons to Israel, contributing to its genocidal campaign against Palestinians.
RSS’s major accomplishments: The incident that changed the course of history was the assassination of one of the world’s best-known freedom fighters, Mahatma Gandhi, by Nathuram Godse, an RSS party member. It is widely believed that the RSS’s agenda drove Godse, as Gandhi was seen as sympathetic to Muslims, which went against the party’s mission to create a 100% Hindu India free from ‘mlecchas‘ (a derogatory term for all foreigners, but especially used for Muslims and Christians).
Despite the passage of decades, the RSS continues its campaign of oppression against Indian minorities, growing bolder in its efforts. A particularly alarming event occurred in 2002 in Gujarat, which was characterized by state-sanctioned killings of Muslims carried out by BJP operatives while the local police stood by, allegedly under direct orders from the then Chief Minister, Narendra Modi, who is now the Prime Minister of India. Official records put the number of dead Muslims at 1,109. Unofficial records from hospitals and mortuaries put the figure at above 5,000, almost all of them Muslims. There are no official estimates of the Muslim property that was destroyed or burnt down, but sources on the ground, and those who lost their businesses, put the number at more than US$ 23 million.
