Air Canada Introduces New $30 ‘Phone’ Booking Fee. Here’s How to Avoid It.
October 15, 2026 – On Thursday, Air Canada announced a new non-refundable phone booking fee of $30 per person (plus applicable taxes).
This follows the airline’s earlier introduction of additional baggage fees in April, which charge up to $60 for the first and second bags, as well as a $50 fuel surcharge on certain travel points categorized as ‘sun destinations.’
How Does This New Fee Work?
Customers who book flights by calling Air Canada’s Contact Center will incur a $30 fee per passenger for new bookings. For a family of four, that’s $120. Please note that this fee is non-refundable, even if the ticket or booking is later canceled. Aeroplan members are not exempt either; this booking fee applies to Aeroplan flight reward bookings made through the Contact Center.
How to Avoid This Extra Expense
To avoid the booking fee, customers should use Air Canada’s website or app for a self-service experience. Through these platforms, travelers can book flights, manage reservations, change itineraries, accept new flights, request refunds, select seats, check in, and more. However, customers with accessibility needs can still call Air Canada’s Contact Center and will be exempt from the booking fee. Additionally, if a trip is impacted by a delay, cancellation, or other travel disruptions, travelers will not be charged the booking fee.
What About Existing Bookings?
Air Canada’s Contact Center agents can still help customers with existing reservations, travel disruptions, and other inquiries without charging a fee. The new booking fee applies only when you make a new reservation directly with an Air Canada agent.
Summary:
- The $30 booking fee applies only if you call Air Canada’s Contact Center to make a new reservation.
- The fee is non-refundable, even if you later cancel your ticket.
- Passengers with accessibility needs or those affected by travel disruptions are exempt from this fee and can call without incurring extra costs.
- You can manage existing bookings, select seats, check in, or request changes through Air Canada’s website or app without paying the booking fee.
