Dubai advances toward 2026 launch of world’s first commercial air taxi

DUBAI, UAE (MNTV) — Dubai has successfully completed the first crewed flight of its electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) air taxi, marking a significant milestone in the emirate’s ambition to become the world’s first city to operate a commercial aerial taxi service by 2026.

The test flight began in Margham and concluded at Al Maktoum International Airport (DWC), expanding the scope of aerial mobility testing in Dubai. The initiative is a joint effort between the General Civil Aviation Authority and the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, reflecting the emirate’s growing focus on advanced air mobility infrastructure.

The fully electric aircraft, designed with zero emissions and enhanced passenger safety, boasts a range of 160 kilometers and a top speed of 320 km/h. The project’s vertiport spans 3,100 square meters across four levels, featuring two vehicle-parking floors and two dedicated take-off and landing pads.

Officials said the successful manned flight marks a transition from experimental trials to operational readiness, bringing Dubai closer to realizing its goal of integrating sustainable air taxis into its urban transport network.

Authorities emphasized that the air taxi initiative aligns with Dubai’s broader strategy to enhance quality of life through innovation, smart mobility, and environmental sustainability. The program also supports the UAE’s long-term vision to lead global efforts in future transport technologies.

Once operational, the aerial taxi system is expected to significantly reduce traffic congestion and travel times, offering a new dimension of connectivity between key urban areas and airports across the city.
