Leaked CIA assessment warns of civil-war risk in Israel, report says
Classified Red Cell paper reportedly warns that war, economic strain and deep social divisions could push Israel toward internal conflict or collapse
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — A classified CIA assessment has reportedly warned that Israel’s deepening political, economic and social fractures could push the country toward civil war or even state collapse, according to a report by Drop Site News citing two US sources familiar with the document.
The assessment, titled “Fracture From Within,” was prepared in August by the CIA’s Red Cell — a unit set up to challenge prevailing intelligence assumptions and test worst-case scenarios, the outlet said.
It describes Israel entering a period of heightened instability ahead of its Oct. 27 election, driven by economic pressure, rising military spending, disputes over compulsory military service, escalating settler violence in the occupied West Bank, and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s struggle to hold onto power.
Years of war in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran have intensified those strains, it reportedly adds, with prolonged mobilisation weighing on society and returning soldiers facing trauma.
One of the sharpest fault lines, according to the report, is the exemption of ultra-Orthodox men from a draft that has repeatedly pulled other Israelis into reserve duty, raising questions about who shares the costs of war. The assessment also points to Israel’s growing international isolation, including declining U.S. support, as a further pressure.
MNTV could not independently verify the document, which rests on a single outlet’s account of unnamed sources; if accurate, it represents a stark intelligence warning that Israel’s gravest challenge may increasingly come from within.
