Israel’s opposition to Iran-US deal reflects Tehran’s success, Pezeshkian says
Iranian president praises negotiators, says planned agreement with Washington could help resolve regional tensions and strengthen international cooperation
TEHRAN, Iran (MNTV) — Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said Monday that Israel’s opposition to a memorandum of understanding between Tehran and Washington demonstrates the success of the Iranian nation, as the two sides prepare to sign an agreement aimed at permanently ending hostilities.
“The concern and anger of the Zionist regime over this process is a clear sign of the success and victory of the Iranian nation. With divine grace, this path will continue with strength,” Pezeshkian said during a nationwide conference.
His remarks came a day after Iran’s Supreme National Security Council announced the finalization of the text of a memorandum of understanding between Iran and the United States following months of negotiations.
Iran and the United States began talks after a ceasefire announced in early April, with Pakistan serving as a mediator. According to Iranian officials, the memorandum is based on Tehran’s 14-point proposal and has undergone multiple rounds of review over the past 60 days in both capitals, with each side offering revisions and feedback.
The agreement is expected to be signed Friday in Geneva, Switzerland. Iranian officials say it would bring a permanent end to the conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon, and end the U.S. naval blockade against Iran.
Pezeshkian praised the efforts of Iran’s negotiating team, including top negotiator Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araqchi, describing the diplomatic breakthrough as a major achievement for the Islamic Republic.
He said the progress was made possible through close coordination among the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government, as well as the country’s armed forces.
The president reiterated that the negotiating team remained fully committed to the policies and frameworks established by Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Mojtaba Khamenei.
“All actions will be carried out within the framework of national interests and the red lines drawn by the Islamic establishment,” Pezeshkian said, adding that the leader’s guidance and support had been instrumental in achieving the diplomatic breakthrough.
He said full implementation of the agreement and adherence to its commitments by both sides could help resolve regional disputes and create new opportunities in international relations.
Pezeshkian also called for greater unity at home, saying the Iranian people’s support during the conflict had strengthened the country.
“As long as we stand together, no power will be able to harm or cripple the country,” he said, adding that officials must serve the public with honesty and sincerity.
The president also emphasized the importance of expanding ties with neighboring and Muslim countries.
“Muslim countries are our brothers, and we have to strive to strengthen mutual relations and cooperation. This approach must become a shared belief and strategy among all government managers,” he said.
While acknowledging differences among Muslim nations, Pezeshkian said common values and interests should serve as the basis for greater regional cooperation.
“Although there may be differences in certain tastes and perspectives, we must achieve convergence around shared values and interests,” he said.
