Israel kills five Palestinians as forces deepen military advance in Gaza City
Israeli troops push beyond existing military line under heavy shelling, forcing families to flee as Palestinian officials report continued ceasefire violations
GAZA CITY, Palestine (MNTV) — At least five Palestinians were killed on Thursday as Israeli airstrikes, drone attacks and artillery bombardment struck multiple areas of the Gaza Strip, while Israeli ground forces expanded their military presence in eastern Gaza City, according to Palestinian medical officials and local witnesses.
The latest attacks comes despite a ceasefire that took effect in October 2025, with Palestinian authorities accusing Israel of repeatedly violating the agreement through continued military operations across the enclave.
Medical sources said 34-year-old Anas Hamdan was killed and four others were wounded when an Israeli strike hit a vehicle in the Al-Mawasi area of Khan Younis in southern Gaza.
In a separate attack, the Palestine Red Crescent Society said 33-year-old Nihad Riyad Arouq was killed after an Israeli drone struck a tent sheltering displaced civilians near the Gaza City seaport.
Medical officials at Al-Shifa Medical Complex said several others, including children, were injured.
Earlier in the day, heavy Israeli artillery fire and gunfire from advancing military vehicles killed Ibrahim Khattab, 37, in the Zeitoun neighborhood of Gaza City, while his wife and children were reported wounded.
Hospital officials also said the bodies of Mohammed Al-Rifi and Suhail Ahdaibi were brought to Al-Shifa Medical Complex after an Israeli drone targeted a gathering of civilians near Al-Sanfour Junction in the Tuffah neighborhood. Several other people were injured in the strike.
Witnesses told Anadolu Agency that Israeli armored vehicles advanced overnight near Dawla Junction under intense artillery cover, moving beyond previously established positions and pushing the concrete barriers marking the so-called Yellow Line farther west toward Salah al-Din Street.
Residents said the advance forced dozens of families to flee their homes as shelling and gunfire intensified. Local activists also reported that nearby commercial properties caught fire during the bombardment.
The Yellow Line is an Israeli-imposed security zone inside Gaza that Palestinians are prohibited from approaching. According to Israeli officials, the military now controls more than 70 percent of the territory, compared with about 53 percent under the October 2025 ceasefire arrangement.
The Gaza Health Ministry said Israeli military operations since the ceasefire began have killed 1,127 Palestinians and injured 3,643 others.
According to the ministry, since the start of Israel’s genocide in October 2023, at least 73,250 Palestinians have been killed and 173,751 injured.
The authorities also say roughly 90 percent of Gaza’s civilian infrastructure has been damaged or destroyed during the conflict.
