Iran claims drone strike on US air base in Bahrain
Tehran says the attack targeted military infrastructure in retaliation for the death of an Iranian pilot during the conflict
MANAMA, Bahrain (MNTV) — Iran’s army said it carried out a drone strike targeting facilities used by the US military at Bahrain’s Sheikh Isa Air Base, describing the operation as retaliation for the killing of an Iranian Air Force Su-24 pilot during the opening stages of the US-Israeli conflict with Iran.
In a statement carried by Iran’s official IRNA news agency, the military said one-way attack drones struck power generation systems, navigation equipment and administrative and support facilities associated with US forces at the base.
Iranian officials said the operation was conducted in response to the death of the pilot in February and forms part of a broader series of attacks on US military installations across the region.
The statement described Sheikh Isa Air Base as a strategically important facility supporting reconnaissance operations, helicopter maintenance and drone-related activities.
Iranian authorities claimed the repeated attacks had significantly degraded the base’s operational and logistical capabilities despite its air defense systems.
There was no immediate response from either the US or Bahraini authorities regarding the reported attack or Iran’s claims.
The latest exchange underscores continued military tensions between Tehran and Washington as hostilities linked to the wider regional conflict persist.
