Group of Thugs Assault Muslim Woman in Moncton, NB, in Alleged Hate Incident: RCMP Still Has No Clue.

The incident occurred six days ago, on July 18, 2026, at 7:30 pm. For the victim, this means enduring six torturous days of post-event trauma, repeatedly replaying the event in her mind, and facing questioning and second-guessing from police and officials—some of whom may not even be interested in her truth.

Sadly, this is a price that every Canadian Muslim is forced to pay for standing up for themselves and their faith in a society that is witnessing a rapid rise in Islamophobic incidents and hate crimes.

While the incident is still under investigation and we await RCMP’s findings, it is important not to jump to conclusions. However, we must also avoid downplaying the event or allowing others to do so. Let’s be clear: this was certainly not a minor quarrel or “two friends duking it out in a parking lot,” as some in positions of power might have us believe.

Nor was it merely an “altercation,” as framed by the RCMP and echoed by some media reports. Such characterization is misleading, and the apathy accompanying this description is shocking. Referring to a violent mob attack on a single, defenseless woman in front of her 7-year-old son—leaving her with a concussion and other physical injuries—as an “altercation” is akin to calling the Gaza genocide a “war.”

The Story So Far:

On Saturday, July 18, a young Muslim mother and her 7-year-old son were out enjoying a sunny day in Moncton, NB, while participating in a local car convoy or show (the specifics of the event remain unclear). During this event, they were approached by an irate group of thugs, one of whom shouted at the mother to “go back to your country.”

The situation rapidly escalated when a stocky, tattooed white woman dressed in shorts brutally attacked the young mother, while her accomplice struck her with an umbrella.

Despite the presence of multiple bystanders, none intervened to protect the mother as she was slapped and punched in the head and mouth by the tattooed woman. Fortunately, one bystander recorded the incident on their phone and shared it with the National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM), who subsequently posted the video on social media.

In a news release yesterday (Thursday), the RCMP reported that officers were called to respond to an “altercation involving multiple people in a parking lot” on Saturday night and are “working to determine if hate was a factor.” The police are aware of the video and believe they have identified those involved, but in an email sent this morning (Friday), they provided no updates on the investigation or potential arrests.

This incident occurs amid growing concern over hate crimes targeting Muslims in Canada.

According to Statistics Canada, police-reported hate crimes against Muslims soared by 94% in 2023, increasing from 109 incidents in 2022 to 211 in the following year. Overall, religiously motivated hate crimes increased by 67%, while total reported hate crimes rose by 32% during the same period.

StatsCan further revealed that there were 4,708 hate crimes reported to police in 2025, marking a 40% increase from 2021. Race or ethnicity motivated nearly half of the incidents, while religion was a factor in approximately 24%.
