Canadian Soldiers Steal Guns and Ammo from Military Headquarters; Kidnap Man for His Cryptocurrency.
October 14, 2026, Toronto, Ontario. Soon after the unsettling news of 6 active Toronto police officers arrested for organized crime, extortion, robberies, and organizing ‘hits’ on government officers hit Torontonians earlier this year, comes this much more concerning news today.
The Toronto Police Service (TPS), while speaking to the press, revealed that they had arrested three Canadian soldiers for a violent kidnapping of a Toronto-based foreign-exchange dealer and forcing him to hand over access to his cryptocurrency.
The kidnapping occurred on July 25 in a residential neighborhood near Finch Avenue East and Bayview Avenue. The target was the owner of a cryptocurrency exchange.
The suspects abducted the victim at gunpoint as he approached his vehicle, TPS Chief Myron Demkiw shared at a press conference. “He was handcuffed and assaulted. The suspects allegedly tried to access his cryptocurrency assets and business-related security systems. The victim was later released and threatened not to contact the police,” said Chief Superintendent Joe Matthews of Detective Operations.
Despite the threats, the victim contacted police, prompting an investigation into the suspects.
While TPS has not confirmed whether the kidnappers successfully obtained cryptocurrency from the victim, who has not been publicly identified, he did suffer minor injuries.
“What started as a kidnapping investigation became much larger,” Demkiw stated. “In total, seven suspects have been arrested, and 82 criminal charges have been laid.”
Within 24 hours, police identified a vehicle used in the kidnapping, leading to the arrest of two suspects, Matthews noted.
“By September 24, all seven accused had been arrested and charged,” Matthews added.
The police conducted searches of vehicles and residences across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), seizing four firearms during their investigation, two of which were 3D printed.
They also recovered two silencers, 10 overcapacity magazines, more than 2,700 rounds of ammunition (half of which were blanks), cell phones, a replica firearm, and a significant quantity of methamphetamine, cocaine, and other controlled substances, Matthews explained.
Investigators later determined that approximately 2,500 rounds of ammunition and five over-capacity magazines had been stolen from the Canadian Armed Forces.
The victim was targeted because the kidnappers believed he had access to valuable cryptocurrency assets. “Criminals continue to adapt their methods and identify new opportunities for financial gain,” Matthews said.
As of now, police have not connected this kidnapping to other abductions in Toronto, although they continue to examine the seized cell phones.
The three soldiers charged are Talarambage Sachintha Fernando, James Moreau, and Jack Miley. All three are members of the 7th Toronto Regiment, a reserve artillery unit based at Moss Park Armory in Toronto.
“Their military training is quite concerning, not only for the victims of this type of violence but also for our officers who may encounter them,” Matthews stated. “These are highly trained individuals with access to firearms.”
National Defense confirmed last week that all three soldiers have been removed from duty, and their access to Armed Forces equipment, facilities, and bases has been restricted. They remain in the military pending an administrative review.
According to a reliable source, all three were military instructors within the Greater Toronto Area.
