DHAKA, Bangladesh (MNTV) – Long queues of voters were seen outside polling stations in Bangladesh on Thursday morning, even an hour before voting for the 13th national parliamentary election and the referendum officially began at 7:30am, reports The Daily Star.

A festive atmosphere prevailed at many centers, with law enforcement personnel deployed to maintain order and ensure security.

In Dhaka and other districts, many people had arrived shortly after offering Fajr prayers to cast their ballots early.

Smiling and chatting while standing in queues, voters expressed enthusiasm about taking part in the election.

As the morning progressed, queues grew longer at numerous centers. At several polling stations, the turnout of female voters was noticeably high.

At Manipur High School in Shewrapara under the Dhaka-15 constituency, several hundred men—many of them political party activists—gathered near the center even before sunrise.

“I went to the mosque for Fajr prayers and then came straight to the centre, as I wanted to cast my vote early,” said a voter waiting in line.

Outside Dhaka, similar scenes were observed, with voters thronging polling stations early in the morning to exercise their franchise after more than a decade.

“I am casting my vote for the first time. I am very excited, so I woke up early and came to the centre,” said Yousuf Ali, a voter at Khondoker Tola Government Primary School in Sherpur upazila of Bogura.

Election officials said voting began on time at most centers, and no major irregularities were reported in the early hours.
