Argentina’s Milei secures decisive win in legislative elections
President Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza party has secured a decisive victory in Argentina’s legislative elections
BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (MNTV) – President Javier Milei’s La Libertad Avanza party has secured a decisive victory in Argentina’s legislative elections, winning more than 40% of the vote and gaining 64 additional lower house seats.
The result strengthens Milei’s position to push through economic reforms, though his party still falls short of an absolute majority. Starting December 10, La Libertad Avanza will hold 94 seats in the 257-member Chamber of Deputies, enough to sustain vetoes and block impeachment efforts.
Milei hailed the outcome as “a historic day” marking Argentina’s transition “from decadence to progress,” pledging to use the new Congress to “consolidate Argentina’s growth and takeoff.”
US President Donald Trump congratulated Milei, calling him “a wonderful leader” and saying the results “proved our confidence in him was justified.”
The election recorded Argentina’s lowest voter turnout since the return of democracy in 1983, with less than 68% participation despite mandatory voting laws.
