Anti-Muslim incidents surge across America as mosques face bomb threats and vandalism
Advocacy groups document eleven-fold rise in attacks on Muslim individuals and institutions in first quarter of 2026
LOS ANGELES, United States (MNTV) – Advocacy groups have warned of a sharply deteriorating climate for Muslim communities in the United States, with anti-Muslim incidents rising dramatically in the first months of 2026 amid the U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and a surge in hostile political rhetoric.
The Muslim Public Affairs Council documented an eleven-fold rise in attacks targeting Muslim individuals and institutions during the first quarter of 2026, linking the spike to geopolitical tensions surrounding the Iran conflict.
Incidents ranged from mosque vandalism and bomb threats to physical assaults against Muslim women, alongside a surge in online hate content.
Separate monitoring by the Center for the Study of Organized Hate found a sharp increase in anti-Muslim posts on social media following the outbreak of the Iran conflict, including calls for violence and discriminatory policies.
In California, threats directed at the Islamic Society of Orange County prompted local authorities to increase police patrols around the mosque, which serves thousands of residents. Online posts included inflammatory claims about the mosque’s expansion and in some cases explicit threats of violence.
Lawmakers condemned the threats and called for investigations.
CAIR warned that the normalization of anti-Muslim rhetoric in both online spaces and political discourse risks real-world harm, urging government authorities and technology companies to take stronger action against hate speech and ensure accountability for threats and violence.
