Algeria advances Hassi Bir Rekaiz oilfield development
Second-phase EPC deal to expand processing capacity, boost output, and deepen regional energy cooperation
ALGIERS, Algeria (MNTV) — Algeria has moved forward with the second phase of development at the Hassi Bir Rekaiz oilfield, with state energy firm Sonatrach and Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production signing an engineering, procurement, and construction contract with Petrojet and Arkad.
According to The Energy News, the agreement covers the expansion of the onshore oilfield located in the northern Berkine Basin, where PTTEP operates in partnership with Sonatrach and China’s CNOOC.
Under the contract, the project will include the construction of a crude oil processing unit with a capacity of 315,000 barrels per day, along with facilities for treating produced water and associated gas.
Sonatrach said the second stage of development is expected to increase production levels and improve processing efficiency, reinforcing Algeria’s export capabilities and strengthening its position as a key energy supplier.
In a parallel development, Sonatrach also signed a fixed-term framework agreement with Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation to cooperate on the marketing of crude oil and petroleum products.
Petrojet, a state-owned Egyptian contractor, is involved in sectors including oil and gas, petrochemicals, power, and infrastructure, while Milan-based Arkad provides engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning services for energy projects globally.
