Ex-Biden officials press 2028 Democrats to break on Gaza
Twelve former US officials who resigned over Biden's support for Israel's genocide in Gaza are urging Democratic presidential hopefuls to reject his approach and bar officials they accuse of enabling it
WASHINGTON (MNTV) – Twelve former U.S. officials who resigned between late 2023 and mid-2024 over President Joe Biden’s handling of Israel’s genocide in Gaza are calling on prospective 2028 Democratic presidential candidates to break with his administration’s Israel policy and pledge not to appoint officials they hold responsible for enabling Israel’s war crimes.
In a joint statement released Wednesday, the group called on candidates to reject the policies pursued under Biden.
“We call on candidates for the 2028 Presidential Nomination to commit to not hire any administration official directly responsible for enabling Israeli genocide of Palestinians in Gaza,” the group said, using the term themselves.
They also urged candidates to acknowledge what they described as Washington’s complicity.
A video accompanying the statement featured senior Biden figures, including former Secretary of State Antony Blinken and former national security adviser Jake Sullivan.
While the Biden administration repeatedly expressed concern about civilian casualties, it continued providing military and diplomatic support to Israel throughout the genocide.
The intervention highlights a deepening divide within the Democratic Party over Israel and US military aid. Progressive figures including Representative Rashida Tlaib and New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani have also criticized US support for Israeli operations.
The former officials’ demand poses a direct test for the 2028 field: whether candidates will defend Biden-era decisions or commit to conditioning aid and establishing clearer accountability.
