Yemeni officials warn of escalation unless Riyadh ends war
Yemeni official warns attacks on strategic sites will expand unless Saudi leadership ends war and lifts blockade
SANAA, Yemen (MNTV) — Yemen’s Houthi movement has warned that attacks on strategic Saudi facilities could expand unless Riyadh agrees to end the war and lift restrictions affecting Houthi-controlled areas.
According to a Reuters Connect report, Mohammed al-Bukhaiti, a member of Ansar Allah’s political bureau, said Yemen’s operations were intended to raise the cost of continued Saudi military pressure and push the kingdom toward negotiations.
Al-Bukhaiti said the movement could extend its operations to Saudi ports, power-generation facilities and other infrastructure if its demands were not met.
He described the attacks as a gradual escalation intended to pressure Saudi leaders to reconsider their position.
The warning follows renewed fighting after a period in which a United Nations-brokered truce largely halted major hostilities.
A Saudi-led coalition intervened in Yemen in 2015 in support of the internationally recognized government after the Houthis seized Sanaa and large parts of the country in late 2014.
The Houthis have presented their latest military actions as a response to continued war and restrictions. Their threatened expansion, however, risks further endangering civilians and critical infrastructure across the region.
