GTA Weather: Don’t Bring Out Your Sweaters and Jackets Just Yet.
Monday, September 14: Did you notice it too? For the first time this season, the air had a noticeable bite this morning as a north wind swept into the GTA, signaling the arrival of chilly weather.
What does the rest of the week look like?
Environment Canada has forecast a mix of sun and clouds, with a high of 20°C today (Monday). The wind will come from the northwest, with maximum speeds of 15 km/h.
Tomorrow (Tuesday) will bring a temperature rise, with an expected high of 24-25°C. Enjoy a mix of sun and clouds, but be prepared for a 60% chance of afternoon showers. Winds will be out of the south at 30 km/h, gusting to 50 km/h in the morning.
A brief thunderstorm is possible; however, thunderstorms are more likely to develop Tuesday evening, with a slight chance of heavy downpours.
Wednesday will be warm; however, the weekend weather will be cooler.
Mid-summer weather will return on Wednesday, with an expected high of 26°C and a mix of sun and clouds.
Rain and cooler weather are expected to return on Thursday, with a high of 23°C and a 40% chance of rain.
The cooler weather will mark the end of the week, with a forecasted high of 19°C on both Friday and Saturday. Expect a mix of sun and clouds.
Friday and Saturday will also bring the week’s coolest nights, with lows around 10°C on Friday and 11°C on Saturday night. Environment Canada advises GTA residents to carry an umbrella today, as there is a 30% chance of showers on Saturday night.
Current models indicate rain on Sunday, which may not be ideal for outdoor activities.
While it is too early to determine the exact amount of rain, we can expect 10+ mm of steady rainfall rather than heavy downpours. Sunday temperatures will hover around 20°C.
Overall, the weather appears consistent with Toronto’s historical records. Climate records from the past two decades indicate that average daytime highs between September 15 and September 22 typically reach around 22°C, with lows near 14°C. While warm spells are not unheard of, sustained highs in the upper 20s this late in the month are relatively rare.
