Kuwait introduces 15-year residency for investors
New residency program aims to attract foreign capital, business leaders and skilled professionals to the country
KUWAIT CITY, Kuwait (MNTV) – Kuwait has launched a new long-term residency program allowing eligible foreign investors, senior executives and their families to stay in the country for up to 15 years.
According to Arab News, the initiative was approved under a recent Cabinet decision and developed by Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior in cooperation with the Kuwait Direct Investment Promotion Authority as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s investment environment.
The residency pathway is available to owners of approved investment companies, qualified business partners, senior executives and their immediate family members.
Under the new framework, companies registered through the investment authority must maintain a minimum investment value of 5 million Kuwaiti dinars, equivalent to about $16.2 million, along with at least 1 million dinars in approved investment activities.
Authorities said eligible businesses must continue operating in Kuwait and meet requirements related to employing Kuwaiti citizens.
The move reflects Kuwait’s broader strategy to attract international investors and support private-sector expansion while reducing reliance on traditional oil-based economic activity.
The Ministry of Interior said the program strengthens the legal framework for direct investment and enhances Kuwait’s appeal to global investors seeking stable long-term opportunities.
The new pathway places Kuwait among several Gulf countries that have introduced extended residency options for investors, entrepreneurs and highly skilled professionals.
Other Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain and Qatar, have expanded similar residency programs linked to investment, property ownership and professional qualifications.
Kuwaiti officials said the 15-year residency option will provide investors and business leaders with greater certainty to establish and grow their operations in the country.
