Lukashenko confirms joining US-led Gaza peace board
Belarusian leader says initiative could later help advance peace efforts related to Ukraine
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has formally accepted an invitation to join the US-proposed “Board of Peace,” an international body initiated by President Donald Trump to address global conflicts, beginning with Gaza.
Lukashenko’s press service said the Belarusian leader signed the required documents in line with the invitation procedure, making Belarus one of the founding members of the council. Speaking at a news conference in Minsk, Lukashenko said he had officially notified Washington of Belarus’s readiness to participate.
“I have signed the appropriate appeal to the United States, stating that we are prepared to accept their offer and become founders of this council,” he said, adding that Minsk clearly understands the limits of its role.
Lukashenko acknowledged that Belarus’s ability to directly assist Gaza would be modest, but said the broader concept of the initiative was appealing. He expressed hope that the board’s mandate and influence could eventually extend beyond Gaza to other conflict zones.
“What attracts me is the idea that the Board of Peace, its actions and capabilities, could expand to other parts of the world,” he said, noting in particular the possibility of contributing to efforts aimed at resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
The Belarusian leader said participation in the board could provide a platform to discuss and promote peace initiatives related to Ukraine and potentially influence decision-making in that context. He added that founding members would not be required to pay membership fees for the first three years, after which continued participation would depend on tangible contributions to peace efforts.
Earlier, Belarusian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ruslan Varankov confirmed that Lukashenko had received a personal invitation from Trump to join the board. A document published on Telegram stated that Belarus had formally accepted the charter of the Board of Peace, with immediate effect, through a notification addressed to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
