Omani University develops innovative solar panel defect detection system
MUSCAT, Oman (MNTV) – A team of Omani students has developed a pioneering system for detecting defects in solar panels using drones equipped with thermal imaging technology.
The students are from the University of Technology and Applied Sciences in the city of Shinas.
This solution, designed to improve detection speed and accuracy, has earned multiple regional awards and recognition at global scientific conferences.
The system uses drones fitted with thermal cameras to identify defects caused by environmental, electrical, and mechanical stress.
Data collected by the drones is processed with advanced technologies like the “Deep Learning Mod,” which enhances defect categorization and detection.
Currently tested on university solar panels, the system has been deployed in real-world environments to monitor performance, generating comprehensive reports on the results.
The team is also working to incorporate augmented reality and artificial intelligence to improve detection and automate maintenance scheduling.
The project has been published in renowned scientific journals and showcased at international events, emphasizing its role in advancing renewable energy technologies in Oman.
