71 Palestinians killed in 24 hours in Gaza amid unrelenting Israeli airstrikes
French government spokesperson urges Israel to stop the massacre in Gaza, urges for restoration of Palestinian Authority
GAZA, Palestine (MNTV) — Israeli forces killed at least 71 Palestinians in the past 24 hours across the Gaza Strip, the territory’s Health Ministry said on Monday, as airstrikes and ground assaults intensified in multiple locations.
According to the ministry, 153 more people were injured and rushed to hospitals, many with critical wounds.Local media reported that 26 of the casualties occurred during Israeli airstrikes on homes throughout the enclave on Monday, with heavy bombardments targeting densely populated civilian areas.
Eight Palestinians were killed near the Abu Mazen roundabout in Gaza City. Meanwhile, Israeli forces struck shelters housing displaced families west of the city, compounding the humanitarian catastrophe.
In southern Gaza’s Khan Younis, an Israeli air raid early Monday morning levelled a home, killing eight people, the official Wafa news agency reported.
Two more civilians were killed in a separate strike at Al-Shafi’i displacement camp nearby.
In northern Gaza, a deadly assault on a residential building inside Jabalia refugee camp left 10 people dead. Further north in Beit Lahia, Israeli jets killed six civilians and wounded several others in yet another strike on a family home.
The fresh wave of attacks follows Israel’s resumption of full-scale military operations in Gaza on March 18, ending a fragile ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal brokered earlier on January 19.
Separately, Israeli authorities released 11 Palestinian civilians from detention on Monday through the Kerem Shalom (Karam Abu Salem) crossing.
Witnesses told local media that the freed detainees were handed over to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and taken for medical checks at the European Hospital in Khan Younis.
The Israeli army has not commented on the releases.
Meanwhile, international criticism continues to mount.
French government spokesperson Sophie Primas demanded on Monday that Israel “stop the massacre taking place today in Gaza.”
She stressed that Paris is also pushing for the release of Israeli captives held by Hamas, the demilitarisation of the group, and a renewed Palestinian Authority as preconditions for France’s planned recognition of a Palestinian state in June.
The humanitarian toll in Gaza is staggering. At least 52,314 Palestinians have been officially confirmed dead and 117,792 wounded since Israel launched its military campaign 18 months ago.
However, Gaza’s Government Media Office revised the death toll higher, reporting over 61,700 deaths, citing thousands more feared buried under rubble and presumed dead.
Legal scrutiny of Israel’s conduct in Gaza has intensified.
Last November, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Separately, Israel faces a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) — the United Nations’ top judicial body.
