12 Jobs in Canada That Prefer to Hire Baby Boomers
Did we think our seniors and elders were done, that their most productive years were behind them? Did we? Well, we may have a surprise or two coming our way. In a job market where millennials and Gen Z feel left out, Canadian employers are increasingly looking to baby boomers—our seniors. Why? They cite experience as a key reason. More employers are shifting their focus from the usual young candidates to a demographic that has been largely overlooked until now due to their advancing age. Ironically, it is this same age factor that is now viewed as a significant advantage when hiring.
The reasons behind this perspective are clear. This group of professionals is pretrained, comfortable working within established systems and protocols, and can hit the ground running at a moment’s notice. They also bring a wealth of knowledge, skills, and a strong work ethic, which can be incredibly valuable to companies across various industries.
This realization comes at a crucial time, as we reported in yesterday’s (July 13) GTA Muslims Today newsletter. Canada’s population pyramid has flipped on its head, with the share of young Canadians falling to 14.85% and the share of seniors (60+) rising to 20.73%. This shift translates into more seniors available for work.
