Vance to lead US delegation to Iran negotiations in Islamabad

WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – Vice President JD Vance will lead the American delegation to peace talks with Iran in Islamabad this weekend, the White House announced, with special envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential advisor Jared Kushner also part of the team.

“The first round of those talks will take place on Saturday morning, local time, and we look forward to those in-person meetings,” White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt told reporters.

She said the nascent truce “is subject to the safe reopening” of the Strait of Hormuz and that the US expects Iran to keep the waterway open during the two-week ceasefire. The deal was based on a “modified” Iranian proposal that the White House described as “a workable basis on which to negotiate,” aligned with the US’s own 15-point proposal.

Leavitt added that US troops would not be withdrawn during the truce to ensure military readiness should Trump decide to resume strikes.

Trump is also scheduled to meet NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte at the White House Wednesday afternoon, following his repeated criticism of the alliance for members’ refusal to join the Iran campaign and, in some cases, their refusal to allow US forces to use bases on their territory.

Asked whether Trump would attempt to withdraw the US from NATO, Leavitt said it was “something the president has discussed” and would be raised in the closed-door meeting with Rutte.
