Omar vows to ‘fight back’, calling home raid Trump’s ‘fascism’
Congresswoman casts search of her home as political persecution designed to distract voters and derail progressive movement before midterms
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — Representative Ilhan Omar responded with defiance to the search of her Washington-area home by federal agents on Monday, casting it as an act of authoritarian intimidation and vowing not to be silenced three weeks before an election in which she is on the ballot.
“Donald Trump’s fascism and abuse of power has now come to my literal front door,” Omar said in a message to supporters, describing the pre-dawn search by Homeland Security agents as “the latest step in their ludicrous, partisan investigation into my immigration status.”
She said she had “been in Trump’s crosshairs for years” but that the president was now “escalating in a desperate attempt to drag me and the entire progressive movement down ahead of the midterms.”
The Minnesota Democrat, one of the first two Muslim women elected to Congress, argued the timing was no accident. She framed the investigation as a deliberate distraction meant to rally the president’s base, saying Trump was effectively telling his supporters: “Ignore the price of gas, ignore the war in Iran, ignore that you’re losing your healthcare — we want you to get angry about this instead.”
Omar also placed the raid within what she called a pattern of weaponising the Justice Department against political opponents. “Throughout his presidency, Trump has weaponized the DOJ to target his political opponents, manufacturing charges that have been roundly dismissed by court after court,” she said, noting she was “not even the first member of Congress to be targeted.”
She called the investigation “ludicrous” and said the escalation was “only further proof that he is willing to use the power of the federal government to try to intimidate and silence anyone who stands up to him. It’s up to us to make sure it doesn’t work.”
On X, she struck the same note: “Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement … I will not be silenced.” Her office said she “has done nothing wrong.”
Omar’s defiance was echoed by Democratic leaders, who called the search “deeply disturbing” and warned that the administration’s “violent mass deportation machine” had reached the home of “a duly elected Member of Congress.”
The White House has distanced itself: asked about the raid, Trump said he had “nothing to do” with it and that the matter was “up to the DOJ.” The Justice Department has confirmed only that agents executed a court-authorised warrant, and no charges have been filed.
