Trump vows US retaliation after Iranian attacks on American forces in Middle East
US president says Washington will “hit them hard” after Iran targets bases in Jordan and UAE with missiles and drones
WASHINGTON (MNTV) — U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that Washington will retaliate against Iran after missile and drone attacks targeted American forces in Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.
“We’re going to hit them hard. There will be a response,” Trump told Fox News.
Trump said U.S. air defense systems intercepted most of the incoming attacks. He added that one missile was assessed as unlikely to strike anything significant and was allowed to continue through the airspace.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said earlier Monday that it had launched ballistic missiles at the King Hussein and Azraq airbases in Jordan and used explosive drones to target Al Minhad Air Base in the UAE.
The IRGC said the attacks were carried out in response to a U.S. strike on Iran’s Larak Island on Sunday.
That U.S. operation reportedly targeted efforts to deploy sea mines in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important oil-shipping routes.
The latest exchanges mark a further escalation in direct military confrontation between Washington and Tehran, with U.S. forces and bases across the Middle East facing heightened security concerns.
Trump also appeared doubtful that diplomacy would produce an immediate breakthrough.
He said Iran had expressed interest in holding talks but argued that U.S. sanctions were already putting significant pressure on Tehran.
The president said the sanctions were “kicking in strongly,” suggesting Washington would maintain economic pressure alongside its threatened military response.
