Trump calls upcoming China summit ‘potentially historic’ as Xi meeting set for May
China has condemned US blockade of Iranian ports as "dangerous and irresponsible," warning it risked undermining fragile ceasefire
WASHINGTON, United States (MNTV) – President Donald Trump has described his planned meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping as “potentially historic,” expressing anticipation ahead of a summit now scheduled for mid-May in Beijing after being delayed by the Iran war.
“Our meeting in China will be a special one and, potentially, Historic. I look forward to being with President Xi — Much will be accomplished!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, describing the trip as “a Monumental Event.”
The summit had originally been planned for March 31 but was postponed after the US and Israel launched strikes on Iran. White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Trump and Xi had spoken about the delay, saying Xi “understood that it’s very important for the president to be here throughout these combat operations.”
Trump also claimed Xi was pleased about progress in reopening the Strait of Hormuz.
Last week, Xi had warned that the “international order is crumbling into disarray” and cautioned against a return to the “law of the jungle.”
China has also condemned the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports as “dangerous and irresponsible,” warning it risked undermining the fragile ceasefire.
