Syria launches massive debris removal campaign in Idlib
Authorities aim to clear 600,000 cubic meters to restore services and support returns
IDLIB, Syria (MNTV) — Syrian authorities have initiated a large-scale campaign to remove at least 600,000 cubic meters of rubble in Idlib province, a region heavily damaged during the country’s civil war.
The Ministry of Emergency and Disaster Management said the operation will focus on key towns including Khan Sheikhoun, Maaret Al-Numan, and Jisr Al-Shughour. Priority will be given to reopening main and secondary roads to improve access to basic services and facilitate the return of displaced residents.
Last year, Syrian authorities cleared approximately 450,000 cubic meters of debris as part of a broader national recovery plan for Idlib. Officials emphasized that debris removal is critical for rebuilding infrastructure and enabling residents to return safely to their communities.
The northwestern province faced additional challenges this February, as heavy rainfall caused flooding in several displacement camps, prompting evacuations of hundreds of families.
The civil war, which lasted from 2011 to 2024, left widespread destruction across Idlib, making the restoration of infrastructure a pressing priority.
